attendance

Attendance and missed lessons

KSA protects a dependable schedule for families and teachers.

Tuition includes 45 lessons each year—about four private lessons each month. This provides seven non-teaching weeks for breaks and vacations. Families arrange vacation weeks and missed lessons directly with their private teacher.

  • If a faculty member must reschedule, the lesson will be made up at a mutually agreeable time.
  • Between September and May, a student may miss up to two scheduled lessons with advance notice and may be able to reschedule them without an additional fee.
  • Except for medical emergencies, a student cancellation must be made in writing more than 24 hours before the lesson to qualify for possible rescheduling. Last-minute cancellations and no-shows are not rescheduled.
  • Between June and August, a student may miss and reschedule up to two lessons with advance communication with the private teacher.
  • Lessons begin and end at the scheduled time. A late arrival does not extend the end time.
  • Missed group classes are not rescheduled.
  • There are no tuition credits or refunds for missed lessons.

billing

Billing

Tuition is paid in automatic monthly installments.

Tuition is billed as a recurring monthly subscription. Families provide bank or credit-card information at enrollment, and subsequent tuition payments are automatic through KSA’s current billing system.

Family expectations

Teacher, parent, and student work together.

  • A parent attends the child’s lesson, takes notes, and participates. When appropriate, families may record the lesson for private review at home.
  • Parent and child practice daily using the teacher’s guidance and the Suzuki approach.
  • Parents learn the instrument’s fundamentals so they can guide home practice effectively.
  • The family listens regularly to the recording for the student’s current Suzuki volume.
  • The first two lessons may be for the parent so the adult can learn the setup and become a more effective home teacher.

Advance notice determines whether a missed lesson may be rescheduled.

A student may be able to reschedule a limited number of private lessons when the family provides the required advance notice. Last-minute cancellations, no-shows, and missed group classes are not rescheduled. If a faculty member must reschedule, the lesson will be made up at a mutually agreeable time.

Preparing for lessons

Families begin daily listening and prepare a supportive musical environment.

KSA recommends that parents read To Learn with Love by William and Constance Starr, Teaching from the Balance Point by Edward Kreitman, or Ability Development from Age Zero by Shinichi Suzuki.

Families can begin by listening daily to classical music and the Suzuki recording for the child’s instrument, attending KSA recitals and other classical concerts, and making a regular place for music in the child’s day.
